5 Great places to have brunch in Lisbon

Are you in Lisbon for a weekend and need a place to brunch to start the day? Or have you been in Lisbon for a while and need some recommendations to go with your friends? Then there are my top 5 places to have a great brunch in Lisbon!

Pancakes and avocado toast from Garden Balthazar café

Garden Balthazar Café

This café located close to Marquês de Pombal offers a wide variety when it comes to brunch or lunch. The café serves the traditional pancakes and oats but also has more nurturing dishes like a salmon plate with brown rice or humus plate with pita bread. Prices are very reasonable and the interior is well decorated with many indoor plants.

Manifest Lisbon

Located close to the previous café, next to Marquês de Pombal, is a Lisbon classic. This café is known for its bohemian style and great lunch. The café has egg toast, pancakes, and cakes but also more healthy salmon and avocado toasts and delicious poke bowls. The place has ok prices but as mentioned above, it is a very well-known location for brunch so show up early to be sure to have a table!

LUDO’s

A lesser-known location compared to Manifest is this great café. Located in Alfama close to the Castelo S. Jorge, LUDO’s is a great stop to have before attacking the slopes and queues leading up to the castle. The café serves a halloumi and avocado plate, cold salmon plates, as well as a continental breakfast: menu with croissants, and muesli with yogurt and juice. The best with LUDO’s however is its price. Hurry there before the Lisbon crowd discovers this place!

La Boulangerie

This café is right next to the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga on the way to Belém from Cais do Sodré. It offers all the best from a typical brunch: salmon toasts, pancakes, etc. However, as the name suggests, the café is a bakery and bakes its own pain au chocolat and bread. Hard to beat considering many cafés don’t bake their own bread and pastries. Great place to have breakfast before going to the museum of Arte Antiga.

Facade of Fauna & Flora from the street in Chiado

Fauna & Flora

This café has had a huge success in recent years and has thankfully opened in several locations, namely in: Anjos, Santos, Chiado and even in Estoril. The café offers everything from bacon & pancakes to bagel and egg toasts. It also has a very nutritious porridge or oats if you want a hearty breakfast. Fauna & Flora also has a great vegetarian variety of lunches with a fried pumpkin bowl, vegan bolognese pasta bowl, or portobello plate with courgette and avocado. I could write more but this café offers so many things I won’t be able to fit it. Hard to go wrong with this choice.
